Colorado's Clavijo resigns; assistant Smith named interim

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- Fernando Clavijo is resigning as Colorado Rapids coach due to personal reasons and assistant Gary Smith will take over as interim coach. Clavijo left the team last week to go to his native Uruguay for a family medical emergency. Entering the final 10 games of his contract, Clavijo and the Rapids agreed to part ways now so he can focus on his family.
