Mavericks flunk first defensive test

Coach Rick Carlisle has harped on defense since the Dallas Mavericks reported for training camp. That didn't change after the season-opening 102-91 loss to the Washington Wizards. Never mind the Mavericks' miserable shooting night. Those will happen on occasion. "It's going to be whether we can defend or not," Carlisle said. "It's as simple as that."
