Breakdown of defensive alignments

Throughout the season, the plan is to track how often the Patriots are in sub packages (5 or more defensive backs). In the team's most recent game, a 59-0 victory over the Titans, the Patriots mostly stayed in a base 3-4 alignment (39 of 49 snaps). Jerod Mayo's return to health and the signing of Junior Seau have given the Patriots more flexibility to play the 3-4. In the first five weeks of the season, they had been in the 3-4 just 10 times.
