The organization is ready to eat enough money of the $21 million still owed to him that it can get rid of him -- and lest there be any doubt that the cost of dumping him will be enormous, rival officials believe the Cubs will have to swallow something in the range of $18 million to $19 million or else take a larger dead contract in return to make something happen.
