GUANGZHOU, China -- Fifth-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel defeated Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan 6-3, 6-3 Wednesday in the second round of the Guangzhou Open. Abigail Spears of the United States lost 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 to seventh-seeded Ayumi Morita of Japan. Alexandra Panova of Russia upset sixth-seeded Olga Govortsova of Belarus, 7-5, 6-4. Also, eighth-seeded Alberta Brianti of Italy defeated Lenka Wienerova of Slovakia 6-3, 6-1.
