During the mid-1990s, Patterson was a fixture in the state rankings. In fact, under then-coach Roger Wrenn, now at Poly, Patterson spent the entire 1994 and 1995 seasons in the Top 25, climbing as high as No. 2 prior to the 1994 state playoffs. The Clippers' fortunes forever changed, though, with a 1996 season-opening loss to Poly.
