Football Outsiders Friday, August 28, 2009 The Big Ten has 11 member teams -- not enough to split divisions and host a championship game and too many for round-robin scheduling. Is it a big deal? It can be a problem. In the other five BCS leagues, the two best teams are guaranteed to play each other at least once every year -- either in the regular season, in a conference championship game, or both.
