When the field of nine left the Saratoga starting gate at 2:42 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, a horse named Lord Kipling was 5-2. One minute and 22 seconds later, when the 2-mile marathon was nearly half over, Lord Kipling was 2-1 and on his way to a front-running win.
