ESPN The Magazine Thursday, August 6, 2009 The city of Charlotte and the Lowe's, er, Charlotte Motor Speedway have long had an interesting relationship. The Speedway, which sits about 20 minutes north of downtown, has gone about its business since 1960, largely ignored by the stuffed shirt bankers in the city to the south. For decades the racetrack has tried dozens of different ways to get the suits' attention. On Wednesday afternoon, they got their attention just fine, thank you. Funny what 7,000 horsepower can do.
