Page 2 Saturday, July 4, 2009 The 1980s began with a raging debate: Who was the best team in college football? Ohio State entered New Year's Day undefeated and ranked No. 1. But Alabama, Florida State and USC were also unbeaten (USC had a tie). The Buckeyes and Trojans would be playing each other in the Rose Bowl but Alabama was playing No. 6 Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl and Florida State was playing No. 5 Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl.
