Bruney back; Veras designated

NEW YORK -- Reliever Brian Bruney has been activated by the New York Yankees, who designated Jose Veras for assignment to open a roster spot. Bruney, a 27-year-old right-hander, started the season as Mariano Rivera's set-up man but has pitched just once for the Yankees since April 21 because of a strained right elbow.
