A quick look at some of the things I'm hearing around the college basketball world … • Houston recently hired Mack Rhoades as its athletic director, which no doubt got the attention of UH coach Tom Penders. The veteran coach has won 23 games in each of the past two seasons, but has yet to make the NCAA tournament in his five years with the Cougars.
