Depending who you ask, you might get a different answer as to whose idea the "Protecting Par" story was. Ask the folks in the "ESPN The Mag" office and they'll tell you the idea came about during the epic 19-hole playoff between Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate that happened on a Monday at last year's U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.
