Pedregon leads Funny Car qualifying

JOLIET, Ill. -- Tony Pedregon raced to his second No. 1 qualifying position of the season and 36th of his career Saturday in the Route 66 NHRA Nationals. Pedregon powered his Chevy Impala to a 4.079-second run at 304.39 mph to earn his third top qualifying effort at Route 66 Raceway. Pedredon will face Funny Car points leader Ron Capps in the opening round. Capps squeezed into the field at 16th with a time of 4.228 seconds in a Dodge Stratus.
