Elbow surgery ends Devine's season

NEW YORK -- Oakland Athletics reliever Joey Devine is out for the season following surgery on his right elbow. The operation was performed Tuesday by Dr. James Andrews on Devine's ulnar collateral ligament. A's manager Bob Geren said he was waiting for more details. Devine has been on the disabled list since the season started. Going into spring training, he was expected to share the closer's role with Brad Ziegler.
