ESPN.com Tuesday, March 10, 2009 49ers quarterback Alex Smith has had a disappointing start to his career, but he was adamant about one thing -- he wanted to stay in San Francisco. As a result of his loyalty, Smith was able to rework the final two years of his contract and stay with the 49ers. According to a source, Smith will make $4 million a season in 2009 and 2010, in addition to base salaries that weren't immediately made known.
