• Johan Santana's elbow tightness is apparently severe enough to prevent him from being the Mets' Opening Day starter. Pitching coach Dan Warthen told Newsday that Santana, who is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Wednesday morning, won't appear in a Grapefruit League game before March 18, eliminating any chance of him being ready for the April 6 opener in Cincinnati.
