One by one the Cubs left their Wrigley Field clubhouse that final, surreal day of the 2004 season. They walked past team captain Sammy Sosa's two locker stalls, up a flight of steep stairs, through a metal door that opened onto a main concourse that still smelled of Italian sausages, grilled onions and spilled Bud Lights.
