Sabres prospects Gerbe, Kennedy to start season at Portland

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Top Sabres prospects Nathan Gerbe and Tim Kennedy were among the six players Buffalo assigned to Portland of the AHL on Friday. The team also placed forwards Mathieu Darche and Mark Mancari on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Portland. Gerbe, Buffalo's fifth-round draft pick in 2005, signed a three-year deal potentially worth $2.55 million in May after he led Boston College to the national title.
