TASHKENT, Uzbekistan -- Top-seeded Peng Shuai defeated qualifier Arantxa Rus 6-1, 7-5 Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Tashkent Open. The 40th-ranked Peng is looking for her first career title. Her quarterfinal opponent will be sixth-seeded Monica Niculescu, who advanced when Yaroslava Shvedova retired because of fatigue.
