Delic tops Soeda in straight sets at Japan Open; Kanepi also advances

TOKYO -- Amer Delic beat Go Soeda of Japan 6-4, 6-2 Monday to advance to the second round of the Japan Open. Defending champion David Ferrer of Spain -- the top-seeded player -- has a first-round bye along with second-seeded Andy Roddick. Fifth-seeded Kaia Kanepi of Estonia rallied from a slow start for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in the women's tournament.
