I think I finally understand what the Carpenters were singing about in that 1971 hit single, "Rainy Days and Mondays." I always got the part about Mondays getting me down, but now with this, a Saturday intensely threatened by brutal weather, I understand. Here we have a free Saturday -- you know, the day that's not an NFL game day -- and practically every baseball game is a candidate for a rainout.
