BASSMASTER Magazine, September October 2008 Friday, August 8, 2008 Stan Sloan, First BASS Champ, Passes Stan Sloan, the Nashville, Tenn., corrections officer who won the first bass tournament ever conducted by BASS founder Ray Scott, died July 10, 2008, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 70 years old. Sloan rose to prominence in the fishing world by winning Scott's All-American Invitational Bass Tournament on Arkansas' Beaver Lake.
