Top seed Mathieu, wild card Safin reach third round

MUNICH, Germany -- Top-seeded Paul-Henri Mathieu cruised into the third round of the BMW Open with a 6-3, 6-4 win Wednesday over qualifier Gianluca Naso. Marat Safin defeated Carlos Berlocq 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to reach the second round. The 84th-ranked Safin, whose match was delayed Tuesday because of rain, got a wild-card entry for the clay-court tournament. Tommy Haas withdrew with a painful right shoulder.
