OSAKA, Japan -- The men's marathon runners won't lose an extra hour of sleep after all. The sweltering heat and humidity had the world track and field championships' competition committee contemplating moving up the time of the marathon. But the committee met late Friday for more than two hours and decided to go ahead as scheduled with Saturday's race, which begins at 7 a.m. local time (6 p.m. ET on Friday).
