Special to ESPN.com Tuesday, July 31, 2007 Hey gang, let's revisit a stat I created last year, pitching power ratio. The concept is rather simple, reward pitchers for striking out batters and for keeping the ball down. The formula is (strikeouts + (groundouts / 3) (air outs / 3)) / innings pitched. If you keep hitters from putting the ball in the air, you'll reduce the number of extra-base hits you allow, especially home runs. And, of course, it's almost impossible to reach base if you strike out, and strikeouts are the most powerful ... Activate your ESPN Profile!
