When Eric Mangini took the New York Jets' coaching job, he had future Hall of Fame RB Curtis Martin on his roster as the likely starter going into the 2006 season. However, no one knew how Martin's injury from 2005 would affect this season until well into August. With second-year back Cedric Houston, a sixth-round pick, Leon Washington, who also returns kicks, and Derrick Blaylock as his choices, Mangini decided to acquire six-year veteran Kevan Barlow from the 49ers.
