PHILADELPHIA -- The New York Mets invested $119 million in Carlos Beltran based on his ability to hit for average, hit with power, run, field and throw. That's $23.8 million for each of Beltran's five tools -- or, as owner Fred Wilpon might call them, "skill sets." Some attributes can't be measured by the Internal Revenue Service or the 20-80 scouts rating scale.
