ESPN Insider Tuesday, October 11, 2005 The USC-Notre Dame football series began in the 1920s and was a great rivalry. When Knute Rockne died in March of 1931, the series lost a little of its luster, although the game that fall -- in which USC trailed 14-0 but came back to win 16-14 -- remains one of the greatest victories in the history of Trojan football.
