Williams hopes to build on last season's NCAA berth

HOUSTON -- Greg Williams was hired Wednesday to be the new women's basketball coach at Rice. Williams, the former coach of the WNBA's Detroit Shock, replaces Cristy McKinney, who left for Clemson after leading Rice to its second NCAA tournament appearance. "Cristy McKinney and her staff established a winning tradition in women's basketball at Rice, and my goal will be to continue that tradition," Williams said in a statement.
