NHL Insider Wednesday, January 28, 2004 After the season started with indications the Southeast was improving, the division has gradually settled back into its status as the weakest in the NHL. As of Wednesday morning, Tampa Bay would be the only team from the division to make the playoffs and three of the four worst teams in the Eastern Conference were from the Southeast.
