EXPN.com Tuesday, January 27, 2004 Levi LaValle was racing in only his second HillCross race, and his first at Winter X. Carl Kuster won silver in 2003, and back-to-back golds in 2001 and 2002. T.J. Gulla took the top spot in 2003. Apparently, nobody told Levi that HillCross rookies are not supposed to upset former champions. They're certainly not supposed to blow them off the line and draw the checkered flag nearly three seconds ahead of the silver medalist.
