Dokic advances to second round

SHANGHAI, China -- No. 5 Jelena Dokic of Yugoslavia, the only seed in action Tuesday, advanced to the second round of the $585,000 Shanghai Open. Dokic held a 7-6 (0), 4-4 lead when countrywoman Jelena Jankovic retired due to illness. The 20-year-old Dokic, who was upset in the first round at Bali last week, is seeking her third title of the year. Two other women retired due to leg cramps.
