  • Lang Whitaker of SLAM has posted an interview with Josh Childress' agents Lon Babby and James Tanner. They both talked about how Childress may have been an ideal candidate to be a bit of a pioneer: "TANNER: I would say I absolutely agree with that. Josh, after every season over the last four years, has taken a trip with his friends abroad, and he's also participated in the NBA programs like Basketball Without Borders. So he already had a very global perspective on things that are I think is somewhat unique for someone in the NBA or someone of his age. I think he was ideally suited to take advantage of this opportunity. BABBY: Plus he's a Stanford guy, so he's been exposed to a diversity of culture and diversity of opinion through that great university. He's a smart guy, he's intellectually curious, all those things. I wouldn't use the word 'unique' because that implies that he's the only one. I think it would be appealing to any number of NBA players - and some of them are our clients - to at least explore that. But that's not going to be everybody, that's for sure. And that's part of our job as his representatives to make sure he understood exactly what was going to happen and what it was going to be like. But he is certainly someone who has the right sophistication and cultural curiosity and independence to be able to accept the challenge of moving over there."
  • Now driving hard bargains: Danny Ferry. Daniel Gibson went for it, and Cleveland fans seem to be hoping Delonte West will too.
  • An economist suggests a team name: the Oklahoma City Prudents.
  • On Dave McMenamin's blog on NBA.com, he does a little reporting about a little reporting I was doing. (This thing is getting pretty meta.) Everything he says is true. But I'll tell you what: the story I was working on -- I could not confirm. I can tell you for a fact that Derrick Rose was late. The reason may or may not be a case of making a mountain out of a molehill.
  • Here's the "signing Kwame Brown was smart" post. It focuses on how cheap he is, but I don't like that rationale. If you're a GM, you have one resource that is far more valuable than money, and that's roster spots. Signing someone whom you don't think can play at an elite level dilutes the value of the uniform in the minds of everyone. Make it so that only a certain kind of people make it on your team. That said, I'm open to the idea that Kwame Brown can help a team, if the circumstances are right. After all these years, he's still in the "if he can figure it out ..." category.
  • A whole fat stack of numbers and analysis comparing different college programs and how well their players have fared in the NBA draft.
