Does This Make Sense to You?

April 14, 2008 6:29 PM

David Stern says Clay Bennett -- recently found to have emailed his partners that he was "a man possessed" with trying to get the team moved to Oklahoma City, and to have outright lied to Stern himself by saying he had never talked to his partners about moving the team Oklahoma City when in fact he had -- indeed made a good faith effort to keep the team in Seattle.

At this point, every Sonic owner who has been heard from on the topic -- Clay Bennett, Tom Ward, and Aubrey McClendon -- has expressed in writing their preference to get the team to Oklahoma City as soon as possible, even during the period when they were contractually bound to make an effort to keep the team in Seattle.

From the Associated Press:

"I haven't studied them but my sense of it was that Clay, as the managing partner and the driving force of the group, was operating in good faith under the agreement that had been made with [previous owner] Howard Schultz," Stern said on a conference call Monday. "His straight and narrow path may not have been shared by all of his partners in their views, but Clay was the one that was making policy for the partnership."

So, my question for you is: does this pass the smell test for you? Is the commissioner making sense?
