If you want to prove the San Antonio Spurs are the greatest outfit in basketball, I guess all those titles are exhibit A. But these hilariously self-deprecating musical theater videos are exhibit B. Don't stop watching 'til you see the Coyote take a tumble on the bleachers.
Video of a little timeout squabble in which Zach Randolph douses teammate Nate Robinson with water, and Robinson hucks a towel at Randolph. Afterwards, both players played it down. After jumping Malik Rose in the shower in late 2005, Nate Robinson is on record as willing to scrap with much bigger teammates.
If you see Jason Richardson staring off into space, reflecting on something today, be assured he almost certainly thinking about this.
The 22 worst dunks on the internet. Many of these are hilarious. In some others, people really get hurt.
Right now eight West teams are on pace (.610 or better winning percentage) and Golden State is not far behind (.604) to win 50 games. Before this year, no more than seven teams from one conference have ever won 50.
Iliana Limon of the Orlando Sentinel: "[Dwight] Howard finally let loose on one of the NBA's biggest stages. He took his role of replacing all-star ham Shaquille O'Neal seriously. He was funny and friendly when greeting reporters. His all-star teammates were effusive in their praise of the big man. Howard even let down his guard enough to sing for a local radio station. I love it. And I want more. Howard isn't nearly as warm and fuzzy at home as he is when the Magic take their show on the road. I have to crank up the volume on my recorder and clamp down the headphones to hear some of his interviews with Orlando media because Howard is prone to slip into a barely audible whisper."
A player who might be more valuable somewhere else: Udonis Haslem.
The Akron Beacon-Journal's Brian Windhorst on rumors of Cleveland pursuing Mike Miller: "As for the Grizzlies trade rumors, yes they are true. I've reported numerous times, including in today's paper, that the Cavs have put in bids for Mike Miller. Again, it will all come down to what they are competing against. Taking on a guy like Brian Cardinal is a heavy price to pay."
Manu Ginobili is the victim of a bad call, and gets into it with the referees. Most coaches watch that unfold. Not Gregg Popovich. He goes bananas hollering at Ginobili, and sends him to the bench. I have a feeling this approach might help the Spurs, in general, have the respect of the referees.
Ron Artest to Sam Amick of the Sacramento Bee on sharing the ball: "You've got to see what pieces fit around Kevin Martin, and I'm trying to be that piece to fit around Kevin Martin. It's hard, because Kevin's an up and coming 20-point scorer. Kevin's still learning. Everybody's trying to get numbers. It's hard. It's hard."
Britt Robson of The Rake sees signs of progress in Al Jefferson: "Perhaps no foe has frustrated Jefferson more than Samuel Dalembert the first time these teams played, with Big Al suffering five blocks, including a game-tying attempt in the final seconds. This time, Jefferson wasn't lunched once en route to 9-14 FG. And at the other end, Jefferson totally stymied his taller but more listless opponent. At the half, Dalembert had two points and a rebound in 13:13 versus Jefferson's 10 and 8 in 16:22. Jefferson's shot wasn't falling, but four offensive board produced a pair of putbacks that boosted his percentage (he was 5-9 FG in the first half). He added three more offensive rebounds in the second half and grabbed 14 overall versus 9 for Dalembert. Best of all, weaknesses in his game are slowly but fairly surely being caulked. His 'show' on the pick and roll actually had some resonance for the dribbler, and he wasn't as casual about getting back either."
A look at those teams the Jazz would most like to face (Golden State) and most like to avoid (San Antonio) in the playoffs.
The battle over whether or not Oklahoma City taxpayers should pony up to refurbish an NBA arena is playingoutonYouTube.
