  • The Nets have signed Malik Allen to a non-guaranteed contract for the veterans minimum, which becomes guaranteed if he makes the team. That's it? No quibble with the dollar figure, but Allen can't grab a guaranteed contract from some other team at this point? Must be the hometown discount. New Jersey, meanwhile, will have good spacing for about ten minutes a game for 60 games out of the regular season.
  • Thabo Sefolosha raps, and it sounds about as good as you'd expect. It's better than Jordy, but not by much. It's not nearly as good as Rory Gallagher; but then again, nothing is. Either way, thanks TB.
  • Interesting roundtable discussion about the NBA from some very good bloggers. No word on whether or not a round table was involved. Link via The Basketball Jones. UPDATE: goathair's completely believable explanation.
  • Really bummed that I let this sit in my bookmark list and forgot to link to it -- an entertaining roundup of seasons old and really old, from Plissken at the Buzzer.
  • Thanks to reader Ray, an engrossing look at the life of Woody Sauldsberry, a former Globetrotter who recently passed.
  • J.A. Adande on Hall of Fame coach, Phil Jackson.
  • Kurt from Forum Blue and Gold takes a look at NBA types, and their tennis equivalents. One quibble -- Bill Dwyre's last name is spelled "D-W-Y-R-E."
  • This has probably been posted in a hundred other places, but I wouldn't mind drawing your attention to "11 Guys You'll Always Find Playing Pickup Basketball." Favorite line? "I was lifting, earlier."
  • I love this picture. You know who is sitting to Phil Jackson's left? Charley Rosen. And I don't care what your friends tell you, I love Charley Rosen.
  • I also, apparently, have Phil Jackson's haircut.
  • UPDATE!
  • Reader Ken is emailing live from Spain, here's his take on the first half of Spain/Greece's FIBA match:
  • "I guess FIBA's 1st string ref team is working in Asia this week. One guy got a technical for simply laying the ball on the floor after a made basket. Numerous questionable calls, successful flops, and egregious no-calls, including one hip check early in the 2nd quarter that should have been Pau Gasol's second foul."
  • "It's been sort of a chippy game, but Greece looks like every game they play is a chippy game."
  • "The Spanish play-by-play guy goes RATATATATATATATATATATA every time somebody makes a 3. And then sometimes, for good measure, he takes a deep breath, and goes RATATATATATATATATATATATA."
  • "As a Wizards fan, I'm watching Juan Carlos Navarro to figure out what exactly we gave up. His build? Think Steve Kerr. But the guy can shoot and is really crafty. Not only is he really quick, but he changes speeds to get to the hoop effectively."
