The official Utah Jazz website quotes Boozer, who will be late to training camp:
"My son is recovering from a bone marrow transplant in Miami. Because of his procedure, my return to training camp in Boise, Idaho, is uncertain. As soon as my son is home from the hospital and stable, I will join my teammates. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated by me and my family during this time."
The Salt Lake Tribune reports Boozer's son has sickle cell anemia.
The website Intelihealth.com reports:
For some children with sickle cell anemia, a bone marrow transplant may cure their illness. The child has to have a sibling who is a suitable donor. However, this is a high-risk treatment that is primarily used in those with very severe symptoms.
Very seriously I wish the Boozer family the best of luck. Wouldn't it be great if this procedure results in a cure for his son?
