Yup. I blew it up. What used to be massive novel is now just a 12-line poem. It was painful, frankly. Some of those people I cut, at least temporarily--they're friends.
But this is for the best. That blogroll has been an embarrassment for a while. Yes, there was a lot of good stuff there. But it wasn't all good stuff. And muddling through the 100+ links that were there was not really a good use of your precious time.
When I started TrueHoop, I pretty much just stole one of the best blogrolls out there, with permission, from BlogaBull. Then I found another site I liked, and added it. And another. Then people started emailing me about sites I should add, and I often did. I kept adding, and adding, and time passed, and soon it was clear that some kind of dewey decimal system (or at least weeding out the broken links and dormant sites, and perhaps alphabetizing or making subcategories) was in order. That's a biggish, boringish project. It has been on my to-do list for a year.
But now it's show time. The big time! ESPN! And I still had that same old blogroll that was so in need of work.
So I hatched a plan. Just take it back to its roots. Make it a dozen sites I love. Totally manageable, and useful to readers because this dozen? I endorse them all.
It will rise again. I will build it from scratch, with a better scheme. I'll be stricter about who makes it, and I will take my time. Every site that was on the old blogroll? I'm still reading. I have all the same RSS feeds I ever had. I'll be linking when they have good stuff. And if they have good stuff again and again? They'll go back in the blogroll.
