  • Bijan C. Bayne compares NBA thuggery with other sports: "Football is Pop Warner, Tom Landry and Thanksgiving. Basketball is Bronx-meet-world."
  • Kobe Bryant talks about politics. He doesn't say anything. But he's talking about politics.
  • Oregonian beat writer Jason Quick says that he thinks point guard is Brandon Roy's future NBA position, which means he believes Jarrett Jack--who is playing very well--could be available.
  • If you have surround sound, this is how you can mute TV announcers and keep sound from the event.
  • What do the Sonics mean to you? To me it's mostly about Squatch...
  • David Friedman asks is Gilbert Arenas a gunner?
  • Trenton Hassell lists the five toughest guys to cover. Dwyane Wade is number five.
  • A lot of parents dither about how to discipline their children. Not Andrew Bynum's mom, Janet McCoy (who moved to L.A. to watch over him) who makes it sound like she might still spank Bynum. Liz Robbins reports: “'I tell him all the time, just ’cause you’re an N.B.A. player, you’re still my son,' McCoy said at a game in Los Angeles two weeks ago. She moved from New Jersey last year to live with Bynum. 'We come from the school of spanking and punishment. He still has to take out the garbage. We stick to that.'" I'm sure he's thrilled that's in one of America's most read newspapers.
  • The Nets' arena in Brooklyn was approved and now only needs to clear some minor hurdles, like a lawsuit or ten and a boatload of construction, to assure the Nets will be heading to New York City in the next few years. If/when they get there, I predict the Brooklyn Nets will be the most popular basketball team in the NBA. A high-level overview of the Atlantic Yards project.
  • When's the last time an NBA punch connected?
  • David Aldridge reports that Ed Snider has no regrets: "They wonder if Snider didn't cut off his nose to spite his face by holding a garage sale for Iverson instead of an invitation-only auction - and if he didn't hamstring Billy King in the process. Getting Andre Miller, Joe Smith and two first-round picks from Denver for Iverson hasn't quelled all that skepticism. But Snider maintains his way was the right way. 'What about this summer?' he asked, referring to the trade discussions with Boston and Utah. 'Billy didn't go public. Wasn't it out there anyway?... This [way] was just cut and dried. We're doing it. We know what our offers are from other teams and we could have made many, many good deals for our team.'"
