The Auburn coaching staff is beginning to take shape under Gene Chizik, who's hired Ted Roof away from Minnesota to be the Tigers' defensive coordinator.

Roof, a former head coach at Duke, only spent one season at Minnesota. He was nominated for the Broyles Award as the nation's best assistant coach in 2000 when he was the defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech.

Roof will have one fewer defensive veteran to work with next season. Junior cornerback Jerraud Powers has decided to give up his senior season and will enter the NFL draft. He joins defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks as Auburn players leaving school early.
