Southerland's return a huge boost for Georgia

Finally, he's back.

Georgia fans know who I'm talking about.

Senior fullback Brannan Southerland will return to his jack-hammer role this Saturday against Tennessee after missing the Bulldogs' first five games.

You say: He's just a fullback. Well, Southerland is much more than just a fullback. He's like having an extra guard in the backfield. He doesn't just block people. He sends them airborne.

There's no question in my mind that Georgia's run blocking will improve with the 240-pound Southerland in the lineup. He's also one of the strongest leaders on the team and a real weapon down near the goal line.

The Bulldogs have really missed his presence on offense. He's sort of that missing piece that makes them whole again.

What you don't know is whether he can jump right back in and be the player he was before his injury. Southerland had two surgeries to repair a stress fracture in his foot in the offseason.

The Bulldogs have been extremely careful this time in not bringing him back too soon. He'll be ready to go.

And even if he's not completely 100 percent, he'll make Georgia better and more physical on offense.
