There's nothing like a little upheaval, and that's what we had last week in the SEC. Ole Miss shocked Florida in the Swamp, and Alabama smacked Georgia around for a 41-30 win in Sanford Stadium. Here are our awards for Week 5:
OFFENSE
Antoine Caldwell, C, Alabama: We're changing it up a little bit this week, mostly because Caldwell was dominant in Alabama's rout of Georgia. But his selection as the offensive player of the week is also symbolic of an entire offensive line that has been dominant to this point. Quarterback John Parker Wilson had all day to throw when Alabama went up 31-0 in the first half, and the Crimson Tide ran right up the middle repeatedly against a Georgia defensive front that was knocked off the ball by Caldwell and Co. This is one physical offensive line, one physical football team.
DEFENSE
Greg Hardy, DE, Ole Miss: In only his second game back after undergoing surgery for a stress fracture in his foot, Hardy was back to his dominant self. He finished with 1.5 sacks in Ole Miss' 31-30 win over Florida and also had another tackle for loss. The Rebels sacked Florida quarterback Tim Tebow three times and kept constant pressure on him. Hardy, who led the SEC in sacks a year ago, was a big reason why. He was also part of a defensive front that won the biggest battle of the game -- Tebow being stopped for a loss on fourth-and-1 inside the final minute to seal the Rebels' victory.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Kentrell Lockett, DL, Ole Miss: Lockett picked a great game to block the first extra point of his career. Florida had just seemingly tied the game Saturday with 3:28 to play when the Gators lined up for the PAT. But Kentrell flew around his man on the right side and went high into the air to smack the kick down with both hands. Ole Miss was able to hold onto the 31-30 lead the rest of the way for Houston Nutt's first big win as the Rebels' coach.
COACH
Jim McElwain, Alabama offensive coordinator: Lot of reasons to go with Alabama head coach Nick Saban or Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt here. Both are deserving, but McElwain's offense in the first half against Georgia set the tone for that win. His play calling was terrific, whether it was a key screen pass or a third-down draw play on the goal line for a touchdown. Most importantly, Alabama's offense looked like a machine in that first half and seemingly did whatever it wanted to do. It's also obvious that McElwain has been a steadying influence for senior quarterback John Parker Wilson, who's playing smart football right now.
