Florida got some of its best news of the preseason on Saturday when star receiver Percy Harvin practiced for the first time. He's been slowed by a setback he suffered after recovering from offseason heel surgery.
Florida coach Urban Meyer said there's a chance that Harvin could play some in the Aug. 30 opener against Hawaii.
When it's all said and done, though, count on Meyer playing it conservative for this first game. The Gators don't need Harvin to beat Hawaii, and if he doesn't look close to 100 percent this week in practice, here's betting that he doesn't play at all against the Warriors.
However, the Gators will most certainly need Harvin (more specifically, a healthy Harvin) if they're going to survive the Eastern Division this season. They have their toughest SEC road game, at Tennessee on Sept. 20, in the first few weeks of the season and will need Harvin as close to 100 percent as they can get him for that game.
