Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton, coming off his best scrimmage of the preseason last weekend, missed practice Tuesday to recover from a slight ankle sprain.

Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer said it was more of a precaution than anything. Crompton was in a walking boot earlier this week.

The Vols have nobody ready to play behind Crompton at this point, which underscores the need to keep him healthy.
