Flying down to Gainesville, Fla., Thursday morning and I'll check in later in the afternoon when I arrive. The early word out of the Florida camp is that tight end Cornelius Ingram's knee injury is serious. Here are some other doings from around the conference:
* It seems like everybody in the SEC has a good tight end this season. At Alabama, there are several who could play key roles in Jim McElwain's offense. Look for a bunch of two-tight end sets from the Tide.
* LSU's Chad Jones puts up his baseball spikes and has his eyes set squarely on football and taking it to another level after a promising freshman season.
* Vanderbilt's George Smith, one of the most inspirational stories in college football, got some bad news when he found out he was going to have to miss four-to-six weeks with a stress fracture in his right foot. The Commodores' sixth-year senior captain came back from death's doorstep a few years ago after fighting off a rare disorder that most people never fully recover from.
* Patrick Trahan works his way back to the SEC and figures to be a key piece of an Ole Miss defense that won't be light on talent this season in the front seven.
* Demonte Bolden makes a stand at defensive tackle as the Vols open contact drills with the "Tennessee Drill."
* Columnist Wally Hall of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette writes that Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino personifies precision and is a football coach "24-7."
* Mississippi State's Sylvester Croom sees flashes of the kinds of leaders he's looking for during preseason camp.
