Memphis defensive coordinator Tim Walton has resigned his position with the Tigers to join the Detroit Lions as its secondary coach. Walton spent a little more than a year with the Tigers.

"We appreciate the job that Tim did while he was here," Memphis coach Tommy West said. "Our challenge now is to hire a defensive coordinator who can take the defense from where it is now and move it forward."

Walton had worked with Memphis as its defensive backs coach in 2000 and 2001.
