Spreading the wealth: Last season, Ohio starting quarterback Boo Jackson set the school record for passing yards and don't be surprised to see coach Frank Solich push that even further with top receivers Taylor Price and LaVon Brazill returning. 2. Receivers are eager: Four of the team's top five receivers, including running back Chris Garrett, return, making Ohio one of the more formidable offensive threats in the MAC East. The Bobcats averaged 361 yards last year, but it still ranked eighth among MAC offenses. 3. Garrett poised for breakout year: Garrett had a good spring and might finally be ready to breakout after falling short of expectations each of the past couple seasons. If he can become a feature back, it will take the pressure off Ohio's quarterbacks and make the offense more well rounded than it has been in the past. Fall questions 1. Quarterback questions: Although Jackson came into the spring as the school leader in both passing touchdowns and passing yards, Solich decided to open up the starting position to give Theo Scott, who was injured last season, a shot at the position. That competition will run into the fall. 2. Wounded O-line: The Ohio offensive line had just seven offensive linemen available for spring drills, which made it hard to field more than the first string during drills. The Bobcats are hoping for some relief from walk-ons and recruits in fall camp. 3. Replacing NFL players: The Bobcats are still looking for suitable replacements for cornerback Mark Parson and safety Michael Mitchell, who were both in NFL camps this week. Mitchell was a second round pick. The secondary duo ranked first and second in interceptions for the Bobcats last season. |
