The Orlando Sentinel reported Monday night that former Wake Forest backup quarterback Brett Hodges is transferring to UCF and could be the Knights' starting quarterback in the fall.

Hodges is currently a redshirt senior slated to graduate from Wake Forest at the end of the semester. He plans to attend grad school at UCF and could be granted an eligibility waiver from the NCAA to play right away.

The situation is similar to that of Louisiana Tech quarterback Taylor Bennett, who was the starter as a senior at Georgia Tech in 2007 before transferring to play his graduate school season with the Bulldogs. The NCAA, citing a transfer rule that allows athletes to avoid sitting out a season if they complete their undergraduate degree at one school and seek a master's degree that is only available at their potential school, granted Bennett a waiver, and Hodges is hoping the same rule applies to him.

Bennett became the Bulldogs' starting quarterback before being supplanted by Ross Jenkins. Hodges will face some competition from starting quarterback Rob Calabrese, who played most of last season.

Hodges played in 11 games at Wake Forest. He completed 46 of 69 passes for 402 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
