PROVO, Utah -- After spending most of Monday with Utah, I decided to make the 45-mile trip down I-15 to visit BYU's camp.
First, let me say that BYU has a beautiful campus at the base of the mountains. I guess that's a state thing, because both Utah and BYU had great views. Coming from Missouri, seeing mountains is a rarity.
This is BYU's third practice overall, but first morning practice. It's also the first practice in shells and shorts, which had made for some nice hitting. Found out Tuesday that junior wide receiver Austin Collie will miss the bulk of camp with a stress fracture. I'll talk to him about it more when practice ends. Also, offensive lineman Tom Sorensen has missed the last two practices with a shoulder injury. Sorensen was running with the first string.
Most of the media are confined to the far sideline of the practice fields, so it's hard to see al lot of the 11-on-11 drills the team is doing. I have noticed on several occasions players diving for passes and a lot of guys giving full effort. I guess that's what you get when practice is only 90 minutes long.
Speaking of that, practice has just ended. I'll be back later in the day with some updates and stories.
